Around the School

Gym

As you may have noticed, we now have access to our gym. Our students have been making great use of the two outdoor basketball courts, and Mr Leighton has been able to move physical education indoors during unfavourable weather. Ms Maykan has also settled into the music room in this space.

School concert tickets

Our very first school concert will be held in the school gymnasium on September 15th. Tickets can now be purchased from the front office or through Sentral. Please note, in accordance with our School Council policy, this will be an alcohol-free event.

Enrolments

At this time of year, schools begin planning for the year ahead. This involves organising students into new classes and allocating teachers to each year level. To do this effectively, we need up to date information from families so we can make as accurate as possible predictions about student enrolments for 2026.

To assist with our planning, we ask that you please let us know as soon as possible if your child will be moving to another school at the end of this year.

Reminders
Uniform - Please remember that students should always be in full school uniform including navy blue trousers/ pants/ shorts.
Hats - School logoed, uniform sun hats to be worn from September 1st to the end of April 2026 in line with Sunsmart guidelines.
Hair - Please tie up any hair longer than shoulder length (ponytail/ plaited) to reduce the spread of headlice.

Book Week Parade

I was so impressed by all the incredible costumes at Friday’s book parade! Everyone put in such a huge effort to come dressed as their favourite book character. A big thank you to our parents and carers for helping students with their outfits, I know it takes a lot of time and effort, but it truly means so much to the children.
A special thank you also to Ellyn Maykan for organising the music and putting together such a wonderful assembly. It was lovely to see so many of you join us for our Book Week parade.

Father's Day

It was absolutely wonderful to see so many of our special visitors join us yesterday and share in the day with our students. The children were so excited to welcome you into our school and to celebrate together.

A very big thank you also goes to our amazing volunteers who helped run the Father’s Day stall. Your time, effort, and support are so appreciated, and it’s thanks to you that our students were able to enjoy such a memorable experience choosing something special for their dads and loved ones.

1A Mathematicians

Year One Maths Magic!

This term in Maths, Year One students have been busy building their number skills in fun and creative ways! They’ve loved playing “Get Out of My House” to practise quick recall of addition and subtraction facts up to 20. Using dogs on surfboards and ducks on skateboards, they explored equal groups and learned how to calculate totals. Their problem-solving skills have grown as they completed 100 square jigsaw puzzles, helping them recognise patterns and strengthen number sense up to 100. They also use their Ninja Sliders (beads on pipe cleaners) to practise all the ways to make numbers to 10—earning their next Ninja Slider belt along the way! It’s been a fantastic term of hands-on learning, teamwork, and mathematical discovery. Well done, Year One!

Athletics

This term has seen our student participate in our first Athletics day. After several weeks of learning each event, the students were ready to put their new skills to the test. All participants really enjoyed the events that included sprits, hurdles, shot put, vortex throwing and relays. We now have 5 students who will be competing at the district level. Well done for all those who were involved in a marvellous day!

The Learning Pit

The Learning Pit

When talking about school, you may have heard your child mention “The Learning Pit.” The Learning Pit is a way of understanding what it feels like to take on a challenge. Entering the pit represents facing something difficult — it can feel uncomfortable or uncertain, and climbing out requires persistence and effort. Sometimes the climb is quick, but other times it takes longer and may involve setbacks along the way. Each child’s challenges are different — for some, writing may feel harder than maths, while for others it’s the reverse. The important part is that when they do climb out of the pit, it means they have achieved success and learnt something new.

Screen Time Showdown: How to Manage Your Kids' Device Dependency!

In today’s digital world, screens are a constant presence, from smartphones and tablets to laptops and TVs. While technology offers many benefits, managing your child’s screen time can feel overwhelming. Research shows that too much screen use can affect children’s physical and mental health, leading to issues such as poor sleep, lower academic performance, and behavioural challenges. For this reason, setting clear boundaries around screen time is essential for your child’s wellbeing.

Here are some practical tips to help manage screen time effectively:

  1. Set clear rules and boundaries – Talk with your child about why screen limits matter, and be consistent in enforcing them.
  2. Create a balanced daily routine – Include time for reading, chores, physical activity, and play, alongside limited and structured screen use. Timers can help with consistency.
  3. Encourage outdoor play – Activities like sports, bike rides, or family walks support both physical and mental health.
  4. Model healthy screen use – Children learn from example, so show balance in your own screen habits and enjoy non-digital activities together.
  5. Monitor online activity – Use parental controls where necessary and stay engaged with what your child is watching or playing.
  6. Keep communication open – Talk regularly about online safety, the risks of excessive screen time, and the importance of balance.

Managing screen time takes patience and consistency, but it’s an important investment in your child’s wellbeing. By creating routines, setting limits, encouraging active play, and modelling positive habits, you can help your child develop a healthy relationship with technology that will benefit them well into the future.
