It has been a wonderful start to Term 2, with students returning settled, focused and ready to learn. Classrooms across the school are calm, purposeful and full of engagement, and it has been fantastic to see our students continuing to demonstrate our REACH values Respect, Excellence, Adaptability, Courage and Harmony in all aspects of school life.
As a school, we are continuing our strong focus on literacy and numeracy, with consistent approaches across classrooms to support all learners. Our staff are working collaboratively in their Professional Learning Communities, using data and evidence to refine their teaching and ensure every student is supported to achieve growth. It has been pleasing to see students building confidence, independence and resilience as the term progresses.

We are very much looking forward to celebrating Mother’s Day with our community tomorrow.

Students will have the opportunity to purchase a special gift for their Mum or a significant person in their life. This is always a much loved experience, with students taking great pride in choosing something thoughtful and meaningful independently.
Open Classrooms – Friday 8th May, from 2:30pm
We warmly invite all families to join us in your child’s classroom from 2:30pm as a pre celebration to Mother’s Day. This is a wonderful opportunity to:
We always value these opportunities to strengthen the home and school partnership and look forward to welcoming you into our learning spaces.
As we move into the colder months, we expect to see an increase in colds, flu and other seasonal illnesses within the community.
To help keep everyone well, we encourage all families to support simple but effective prevention strategies:
These small actions can make a significant difference in reducing the spread of illness across our school.
We sincerely appreciate families continuing to communicate student absences and reasons, as this supports us in monitoring attendance and wellbeing.
Supporting our students to be safe and responsible online users is an important priority for both school and home.
Family Zone is a cyber-safety solution that provides parents with peace of mind when children are online, regardless of the device or location. It allows families to manage and monitor online access through age-appropriate profiles developed by experts at the Alannah & Madeline Foundation.
These protections extend beyond the home, supporting safer online use wherever children are accessing the internet.

2027 Foundation Enrolments
2027 Foundation enrolments are now open, and we are already seeing strong interest from families.
If you have a child due to commence Foundation in 2027, please contact the school office to access enrolment information and begin the process. The Department of Education has introduced an updated timeline, with Foundation 2027 applications closing at the end of Term 3, 2026.
We encourage families to begin this process early to ensure a smooth transition into school. We look forward to welcoming new students and families into our Kuyim Primary School community.School Tours
We continue to enjoy welcoming prospective families to Kuyim Primary School and sharing our learning spaces, values and programs.
If you know of a family considering our school, please encourage them to contact our administration office. I am more than happy to personally connect with families and arrange a school tour. These visits are a great opportunity for families to experience our calm learning environment and see our school in action.
Transition from Year 6 to Year 7As we move into Term 2, the Year 6 to 7 transition process begins for our students.
All Year 6 students will bring home information and the official transition/enrolment documentation for families to complete. We ask that parents and carers carefully complete all sections of the form and return it promptly to your child’s teacher. Please note that only one enrolment form can be submitted per student, so it is important that all details are accurate and complete.
Under current Victorian Department of Education enrolment processes, students are guaranteed a place at their designated neighbourhood Government Secondary School based on their residential address. Our school is required to confirm this school as part of the transition process.
Families may choose to apply to a different Government Secondary School, or to a Catholic or Independent (private/Christian) school. However, please be aware that Secondary Schools may not be able to accept students from outside their designated zone if they have reached capacity.
To find your child’s designated neighbourhood school, families can use the Victorian Government’s online tool:
https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au/
We encourage families to begin considering their preferences and to ensure all paperwork is completed and returned by the required timelines. Further information and key dates will be communicated as part of this process.
If you have any questions or require support, please contact the school office.
It has been an exciting term in Foundation as our youngest mathematicians dive into the wonderful world of addition! We began our journey with the most reliable tools we have, our fingers, using them to physically count on and visualise how two groups of numbers come together.

Building on that hands-on confidence, we’ve transitioned into a fun, personalised challenge: Name Addition. Students have been busy collaborating with partners to calculate the "value" of their names by adding up the number of letters. This activity has been a fantastic way to bridge the gap between literacy and numeracy, showing the children that numbers are everywhere!

To add an extra layer of discovery, we have also begun exploring odd and even numbers. After finding the sum of their names or winning a round of our addition games, students are learning to investigate the total. By checking if a number has a "partner" or a "leftover," they are becoming experts at identifying whether their sums are odd or even.
We are so proud of the persistence and curiosity our Foundation students are showing as they master these essential early math skills!

Hello families, and welcome to Term 2!
We hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break.
This term at OSHC, the children have been busy exploring a range of fun and creative activities. We have introduced new board games, and the children have also been designing and creating their own games, building teamwork and imagination skills.
A current favorite has been Lego Beyblades, where children use their creativity to construct their own spinning designs and challenge their friends.
We have also enjoyed sensory play experiences, including making our own playdough and rainbow rice, encouraging hands-on learning and creativity.
One of the highlights so far has been our “Rainbow Wraps” Restaurant, where children took on the roles of chefs and servers, preparing and serving food to their peers just like in a real restaurant. This experience supported confidence, teamwork, and social skills.
We look forward to another exciting term full of fun, learning, and creativity!
