It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as the new Acting Principal of Kuyim Primary School. My name is Rebecca Honeysett, and I feel incredibly privileged to be joining such a welcoming and supportive school community.

I would like to sincerely thank our families for the warm welcome I have received, and extend my gratitude to our dedicated staff for their support and patience as I learn the Kuyim way and immerse myself in the exceptional wellbeing and teaching practices that make this school so special. 
I would also like to acknowledge and thank Rachel Davis for her kindness, guidance and unwavering support as I transition into the role. Rachel did an outstanding job leading the school during what was undoubtedly a challenging period last term. Her knowledge, commitment and genuine care for the Kuyim community have been invaluable, and I feel fortunate to be working alongside such an experienced and supportive colleague.
At this stage, I will be at Kuyim Primary School until April 2027. My role is to support the school throughout this period while leading our upcoming School Review to ensure we continue to build on our strengths and remain focused on the strategic direction of the school over the next four years.
I am confident this will be an exciting and rewarding process. Kuyim already has many outstanding practices in place, and it is encouraging to see the positive impact of our evidence-based teaching approaches reflected in our recent NAPLAN results. These achievements are a testament to the dedication of our staff and students, and I look forward to working in partnership with our entire school community as we continue to strive for excellence and provide every child with the opportunity to thrive.

New staff at Kuyim Primary School
I would like to introduce three staff members who started at the beginning of the term:

• Mrs Emma Grant – Acting Assistant Principal
• Emma Bellamy- Integration Aide
• Imogen Moyle- Integration Aide

We are delighted to welcome Emma to Kuyim Primary School. Emma brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in curriculum and teaching and learning. She has already begun working closely with our teachers, conducting classroom observations and supporting our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to strengthen data literacy and enhance curriculum implementation. I am confident that Emma will be a valuable addition to our team and will make a significant contribution to the ongoing improvement of teaching and learning across our school.
Emma and Imogen have also been spending time in a number of classrooms over the past two weeks, getting to know our students, staff, and the strong curriculum and wellbeing practices that are already in place. If you happen to see some new faces around the school, please take a moment to say hello and make them feel welcome.

Farewell Sonampreet
We also said farewell to Sonampreet on Friday as she begins her maternity leave in preparation for the arrival of her baby in the coming weeks. While we will certainly miss her warm presence and valuable contributions to our school community, we are incredibly excited for her as she embarks on this wonderful new chapter. On behalf of the entire Kuyim community, we wish Sonampreet and her family every happiness, good health and many precious moments as they welcome their newest family member. We cannot wait to meet the newest addition to her family and look forward to welcoming Sonampreet back to Kuyim when the time is right.

100 Days of School

It was wonderful to see our Foundation students celebrating their 100th Day of School on Friday. The excitement was evident as students arrived dressed as the careers they aspire to pursue when they grow up. Throughout the morning, I had the pleasure of meeting future hairdressers, chefs, racing car drivers, veterinarians, construction workers and many more!
   

Adding to the celebrations, our senior school buddies joined the Foundation students to create special hats in preparation for the afternoon parade. Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of engaging learning activities centred around the number 100, making this milestone both fun and educational.

Thank you to all the families who joined us for the afternoon celebration. It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers there to celebrate this special milestone as students proudly received their 100 Days of School certificates.

As a reminder, while photographs may be taken during school events, we kindly ask families to only share images online that include their own child. This helps us respect the privacy of all members of our school community.

We captured some wonderful photos during our ‘100 Days of School’ celebrations last Friday and look forward to sharing these special moments with our school community. To respect the privacy of all students, we only publish photographs in our newsletter and on our online platforms for students whose families have provided media consent.

There are still a number of families who have not yet completed the media consent form. If you would like your child's photographs to be included in future newsletters or on our school communication platforms, please contact Lisa in the school office, who will be happy to assist you with completing the consent process.

Cardinia Network Cultural Leaders Day

On Tuesday, I had the privilege of accompanying our school leaders to the Cardinia Network Cultural Leaders Day, where they joined more than 50 student leaders from schools across Cardinia.

Throughout the day, we met the Mayor, learned about the role of councillors, and gained an insight into how council meetings operate. We also enjoyed a tour of the council offices, connected with student leaders from other schools, and explored the qualities that make an effective leader.

One of the most powerful messages from the day was to never let setbacks discourage you and to embrace new opportunities. Success is rarely achieved through a linear path, there are many different routes that can lead you to your goals.
  

Building works

The construction of the walls in the junior school building is progressing well, and we are hopeful the project will be completed within the next couple of weeks. Once finished, the enclosed learning spaces will significantly reduce the amount of noise that travels between classrooms, creating a calmer and more focused learning environment for our students. We are excited to see the completed project and the positive impact it will have on teaching and learning.
 

On Friday, our Foundation students celebrated their 100 Days of School! It was a wonderful day filled with fun activities centred around the number 100, and students came dressed as what they would like to be when they grow up. We are incredibly proud of everything our students have achieved over their first 100 days of school. Congratulations on all your hard work, resilience and enthusiasm for learning - you have all grown in confidence, developed new skills and learnt so much. We can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings!

Class 1/2A has been exploring how the land where Kuyim Primary School now stands has changed over time. Students travelled back to the age of the megafauna before discovering the native animals that live here today, learning how the land was later used for farming before becoming the wonderful school we know today.

To showcase their learning, students created colourful dioramas comparing the megafauna of the past with today's native fauna. Using crayons, paper and modelling clay, they carefully brought their ideas to life. They also developed their sentence writing skills by creating short information texts to accompany their displays.

Class 1/2A should be incredibly proud of the creativity, effort and care they put into this project. We hope you enjoy seeing their amazing work!

   

          

         

So far this term in maths the Grade One and Two children have been learning about multiplication. The Grade One children have enjoyed hands on activities including creating equal groups of dogs on surfboards using counters and templates.  The children were encouraged to use the language of fair/unfair and equal/unequal to explain their thinking. The Grade Twos learnt about arrays and the difference between rows and columns. They demonstrated their understanding of these concepts by making houses using the windows as arrays. Both activities involved lots of discussion and fun hands on learning.

We were incredibly lucky to welcome some Richmond AFL players to our school for a fantastic Q&A session with our Grade 3–6 students. 

The players generously shared their experiences, answered students' questions, and happily signed memorabilia. A huge thank you for taking the time to inspire our students!

If your child requested a signature on a piece of paper instead of bringing memorabilia, we will email you the signed sheet on Monday then you can print it out.

Enrolments

Foundation enrolments for 2027 close this Friday 31^st July. Please contact us immediately if you have another child starting in 2027 and have not enrolled them. While students inside our zone and siblings will have a place at Kuyim, we need to know exact numbers to plan for the grade structures and start recruiting for 2027.

Uniform

A friendly reminder to please ensure all of your child's uniform items are clearly labelled with their name. We are receiving a large number of jumpers in our Lost Property each day, and it can be difficult to return items that are not labelled.

We are starting Book Club!

Book Club provides families with an affordable and convenient way to bring the best in children’s literature into their homes. Each issue contains age-appropriate titles that have been carefully selected and levelled by a dedicated team of professional booklovers. Parents can order the books online and then they are sent home with your child once they are delivered.15% of every purchase on Book Club goes back to our school in Scholastic Rewards to buy valuable educational resources that benefit your child.

Artwork Fundraiser – Coming Soon!

Our students have each selected a special piece of artwork they created at school, which can be transformed into a unique keepsake! Choose from a range of products including diaries, notebooks, sketchbooks, greeting cards, calendars, tea towels, pillowcases and tote bags.

All funds raised will go towards stocking our Art and Science room with new resources for our students to enjoy.

More information will be sent home in the coming weeks, including details on how to view your child's artwork and place your order online.

Keep an eye out!

It is time to celebrate reading!  From Monday 10th of August until Thursday 13^th August Lamont Book Fair will be at our school.  The children will have the opportunity to browse the books in the mornings from 8.30 – 8.45am and can purchase books from 2.45-3.15pm.  The books range in prices from $5.00 to $20.00 with a small amount exceeding $20.00.  Grandparents also have the opportunity to visit the Book fair on Grandparent’s Day, Wednesday 12^th August.

To top off a great week we will be celebrating Book Week with a parade on Friday 14^th August in the gym from 2.15pm.  The children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character and to bring the book their character is from.  The staff can’t wait to see the children all dressed up and celebrating books.

Welcome Back to Term 3!

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a wonderful break and is ready for another exciting term at OSHC.

This term, we've been thrilled to see our service continue to grow. It's fantastic to welcome back so many familiar faces while also meeting lots of new children and families.

We're diving straight into the fun with a Magic theme, where we'll be learning some amazing tricks—and maybe the children will even teach us a few of their own!

Science Week is also just around the corner. Throughout the week, the children will enjoy hands-on experiments, colourful reactions, exciting explosions (the safe kind!), and many other fun science activities that encourage curiosity and learning.

Friendly Reminder:

Our service is a Nut-Free Zone. Please avoid packing any nuts or products containing nuts (including nut spreads) on OSHC days. This helps us provide a safe environment for all children. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
