At Kuyim Primary School we provide a whole school focus on Wellbeing, Engagement and Inclusion. Our commitment is to develop emotional literacy, positive connections and effective social problem solving throughout all aspects of our school for our students. Fostering wellbeing, engagement and inclusion is essential for each students’ overall development. It strengthens healthy, responsible community citizens and supports academic learning progress.
All students are involved in weekly Social and Emotional Learning sessions which explicitly teach personal and social capabilities, including Zones of Regulation and Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships. The Zones lessons are designed to help the students recognise when they are in the different zones as well as learn how to use strategies (tools) to change or stay in the zone they are in. Staff and students will be using the Zones of Regulation language every day in all classes to gain an increased vocabulary of emotional terms. They will learn the skills in reading other people’s facial expressions, expand their perspective about how others see and react to their behaviour, understand what may cause reactions in themselves, learn calming and alerting strategies, and use problem-solving skills.
