Our Literacy Program spans two hours each day and includes a blend of whole-class instruction, small group activities, and individualised support tailored to student needs. Each session concludes with a reflection on student learning to reinforce understanding and retention of knowledge.
We encourage all students to engage in daily reading both at home and school. Home reading offers a valuable opportunity for students to select books and enjoy shared reading experiences with their families. Home reading also helps children develop a love for literature and making reading an enjoyable and relaxing activity. Reading together, and discussing the content, enhances this experience. Watching your child progress to reading independently is a rewarding milestone for everyone involved.
At Kuyim Primary School, our PLD phonics program is designed to systematically build students’ foundational literacy skills through a carefully structured sequence of phonics instruction. This program ensures that our students gain a solid understanding of letter-sound relationships, enabling them to decode and spell words effectively.
